Unit 4 Initial Visual Ideas

The first thoughts that came to mind for the visuals of the project could be that it is presented as a kind of animated pop-up book, though a sci-fi sleek look could be incorporated to appeal to the age group..

I also thought about a retro game theme, inspired by games such as space invaders and pacman.

Unit 3 Creative Partnership

To Anass

I like the lighting in this :)

the silhouettes really show how your characters emotions, especially like those drawings on page 1, (i like the 6th one the best !) keep it up :

these are cool, number 2 kind of reminds me of pyramid head :) keep it up

Hey I like the ideas you have here such as the ghost haunting him and spooking him, and i really like his backstory making him full of regret and fear.

About the matches, yeah maybe do like Joey has suggested and so the character uses a match to light a candle and drops it to cause a fire :)

hey anass, this sounds like a very cool combination, I like the idea of a suspenseful and psychological story, i can see some kind of chase scene going on, or something :)

From Anass

I am loving the style Vikki, the colour palette which goes with the era and communicates the mood of the nightmare, keep it up

I love these, the mark making rlly nice

Hey Vikki, that's a very interesting combination and I like how you have decided to change the mood of it as the grave digger usually refers to unpleasant stuff. keep it up

wow first one is amazing, the lines rlly captured the essence of the pose

Script to story Animatic

Animatic for the animation. It's become 2 minures rather that 1 minute..and the quality is lower as it wasn't uploading on the normal quality. After trying and trying to make my own, i ended up using music from this site which allows music and sound effects to be used.

Rough Cellar Floor Plans

Environment Design: Cellar sketches

I have some rough initial sketches of what the cellar/dreamworld cellar might look like. This is just off the top of my head so i'm going to make up some floor plans based around actual wine cellars.

in general i think the cellar should have less space and more wooden beams, barrels and bottles and holes.

I think that the Dream world cellar should be more compact, feature more staircases and more colour.

Character Outfits

Character design: Bonnie Reed Silhouettes

I decided to go for a slender frame for this character. it would make sense for her to have a slender frame as she is always active when working as a highwayman, and in the era that it is set in (1700's) a poor person would not have access to much food, plus the character is known for drinking.

I've made up a few silhouettes to figure out the characters pose and a rough idea of what the outfit might look like. In #1 and #3, i had it in my head that she'd be wearing a long coat. and a scarf to cover half her face.  in #2, i was thinking of her dressed in ruffles, a corset like top, and boots.

Storyboarding Draft - part 1

I'm just uploading the first part of my story board: scene that takes place in the London streets.

Gravedigger Character Design

My gravedigger character will appear only in a dream, so i wanted to make him a ghostlike character. I quite like design no.3 the most, i feel that this design has the most ghost-like and non-human look out of the 3.

Script to Screen: Character designs (features, hair)

I'm drawn towards a rounded face for my heroine character, as i'd like to give her more rounded and gentle features, i feel like giving her elongated features with jagged edges would make her seem evil, when i want to make her a relatively innocent character who has just gotten into a bad business. i feel like at the end if the story a rounded and softer look for her will help the audience to sympathise with her more.

so ive moved on to look at features for her - eyes, nose hair and lips. i havent done many nose and lips drawings as i feel that the face shape, hair and body is more important to look at for this project.

Script to Screen: Character Designs - Bonnie Reed

I've tried out different face shapes and body shapes. I had an idea of what the character would look like beforehand, but making sheets of drawings like this helps to open the mind up a bit.

Script update

Sript updated, with a new story and character. i've not made this into a scribd document yet, in case changes need to be made.

Scene 1. Ext. London. Day.
wide establishing shot of a street of shops in London, a familiar building, tower of London, can be seen in the distance. Camera Zooms in towards a shop wall, where we see a ‘Wanted’ poster with the main character, BONNIE REED on it. Camera pans 90 degrees to face the road, and we see BONNIE storming down the road.

2. BONNIE Picks up a bottle from the floor, and sees that it is empty, and throws it away. She pulls out her gun and looks up at a shop in front of her; the wooden sign reads ‘Jacob’s Wine Cellar’. She walks into the shop.

  1. Int. Wine Merchants shop. Continuous
A wine Merchant is walking out of a wine cellar over to the cashiers desk. BONNIE stands and aims her gun at the wine merchant. The camera zooms towards him, where he drops the boxes and puts his hands up. Camera zooms out to show BONNIE walk into the cellar.

  1. INT. Cellar. Continuous
BONNIE walks down the stairs. We see an overhead shot of the room, showing the many barrels of wine in the room.

FADE IN. 5. Continuous
WE fade in to see BONNIE sitting on the floor in a drunken manner, pointing her gun at the door whilst finishing off a bottle. She throws it down, into a pile of wine bottles on the floor next to her. She loses her grip of the gun also, and drops her head. Camera Zooms to a close up shot of her face. Her eyes roll, and she shuts her eyes.

  1. Dream sequence
Her eyes then open, to show the eyes swirling. Camera turns to face the other side of the room, to show her perspective. The room has turned a dumb-esque 'pink elephants' design, with white outline around objects, etc. The wine bottles are a brighter green. Colours are generally more cartoon like compared to the colours previously. BONNIE stands up, and takes a few steps forward.

6.Camera faces BONNIE. She reaches out towards the camera. Below her feet, the ground opens up. She looks down, where a shovel is next to the hole. BONNIE falls through the hole.

Cut to Black

7.Cut back, where we see BONNIE close up. Camera Zooms out to show she is balanced upon a very large wooden platform. The platform moves in a similar way to a seesaw. On the other end, is a smaller hangman’s platform with a noose dangling from it. Her ‘wanted’ poster is stuck to it. This end of the platform tips down, causing BONNIE to slide towards it.

8.Camera cuts to a mid-shot of BONNIE. A large shovel falls into the wood behind her, causing her to fling her arms from fright.

9.The Shovel is pulled out from the wood, by a giant silhouetted figure. Camera zooms out to show the silhouetted GRAVEDIGGER character. The platform drops into the ground, leaving BONNIE falling down and directly into a hole in the ground. The hole is shaped like a grave. Camera follows her as she falls through. She stands up, and looks up.

10.Cut to BONNIE’S perspective, where we see the GRAVEDIGGER begins to fill the grave by shoveling dirt into the hole.

11.Camera cuts back to reveal her expression; mouth opened wide and hands on face.

12.Cut back to: Bonnies perspective. One last shovel of dirt is dropped onto the camera.
Cut to black

  1. INT. CELLAR. Continuous
BONNIE wakes up from her previous state, where she was sitting in the cellar. She looks around, and we see her realise that it was merely a dream. She picks up her gun, and throws it across the room.

Fade to: INT. Wine merchants shop. Evening
Bonnie walks out of the cellar with her head hanging down. She walks over to the cashiers desk where the merchant has now left (hidden). She reaches into her pocket and places a few coins onto the counter.
Camera cuts to behind Bonnie, where we see her walk towards the shop door, sunset light peering through.

Fade to white.
